Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead Season Finale - A Perfect Send-Off

On the first day of the week, the last episode of the trilogy of "Zom 100 Death Bucket List" was broadcast, presenting the best New Year's ball to fans. Despite the lon g-awaited resurrection, "Zom 100" can finish the season when the planning and production were absolutely delayed, and it is very likely that the production of the new season has been decided. 。

A Perfect Send-Off

At times, I was more worried about when new episodes would come out than the episodes themselves. It became a routine to constantly check the website or official account to see when the final three episodes would be released. But despite the delays, ZOM100 showed us one of the best new anime of 2023 and a great ending.

The final three episodes, released on the same day, proved to be a perfect story. Everything blended together perfectly, and I think waiting three months for each episode to be released and waiting for the season to end in 2024 would have further ruined an already inadequate creation.

Episode 10 was a good start that would eventually lead to the climax of the season. It was full of fun elements and downtime, close to the reality that people would most likely fall into if strangers came together to help each other in a fenced rural town. The memoirs of lost loved ones and personal conversations with family members in the exceptional silence of the zombie apocalypse are two pieces of baggage that captured the ending of ZOM100 well, especially in this episode.

Some may argue that the fresh young women introduced at the beginning of episode 10 lacked emotional weight because we didn't know them or their backgrounds. However, it was a good opportunity for Akira to listen to other strangers and their circumstances, which ultimately only contributes to Akira's character development. And I think this was the essence of episode 10 as a whole. Shizuka showed her dedication to her medical practice. Kencho made a lonely girl laugh. Akira got to spend the time he wanted with the founder. And Beatrix... Well, Beatrix just enjoys it. In fact, she wants to see more of the Land of the Rising Sun and its people, and we love that.

Episode 11

Episode 11 ramps up the action leading up to the climax. The battle between Higurashi and the village is the most dangerous element in Akira's life so far. The Bucket List is an original depiction of any reenactment of the zombie apocalypse genre, which is what makes Zombie 100 such an original and endearing series.

Of course, different backgrounds will behave differently at different times, as in Zom 100. But what I found interesting was that each of the main characters had a correct and rational counterargument to the Higurashi Gumi's insane concept of freedom. The great Stan Lee once said that the most powerful characters in manga are the ones the author wants to defeat, and I felt it was pretty much the same here. There was not a single moment when Shizuka, Kencho, or Beatrix were wrong about anything, and each of them overcame difficulties by being pushed to the brink, as if what they believed in was what kept them alive.

What I liked about this episode was that Shizuka was so alive. It was nice to see her character, who had been quiet all season, cry tears of joy and have some comical moments. At the beginning of the season, she didn't want to be involved with anyone other than herself, and every day she chose the most logical path. But this season, she sacrificed herself to free the village elders.

Killing everyone and leaving Higurashi vs. Akira for the final episode was a great tone, and it was like begging for the TV to have the final episode. So, it was a great decision by the production staff to release all the episodes at the same time.

Episode 12

Episode 12 was the best. It is definitely the best episode, both in terms of script and animation production. Shinohara Jun's direction and storyboard in this episode were excellent, and it made the impact of Higurashi's downfall even more. Unlike other series, Higurashi and Akira's connection to their past made everything emotional, which was supported by the great performance of actor Okamoto Nobuhiko (Bakugou - My Hero Academia).

I don't intend to sympathize with Higurashi, but when I look at him through the eyes of the middle part, everything is a little different. There must have been the option of freezing and dying like Higurashi, but Akira said that the path he chose was just a choice. Akira again justified that this path is better than any other road. Higurashi's list was 38, and at the end of the episode, Akira deleted No. 38 from his list, added, and everyone else joined him. It was clear that this episode was carefully made at all levels, which made the end of the Zom 100 season (and) a wonderful goodbye before the announcement of the new season.

But what is the ZOM100 without humor? At the end of the season, the death of Akira founder seemed to be dramatic, and it seemed very plausible at one time. For example, if you are a fan of anime only and you really think he will die, it can't be helped. Akira's mother expresses his "growth" almost like a tumor, and Akira lamentes him, "How much do you care?" It is a comedy. I couldn't imagine that Zom 100 would end this serious situation in another way. However, when Akira's founder says he is proud of Akira, he would lie if he did not really confirm his impressions.

Zom 100 Season Finale Wrap-Up

It was worth waiting for a long time. It may be a New Year's magic that one final episode was united. And even though "Zom 100" did not have the opportunity to end the better way than this series. The production was wonderful. The voice actors were as good as usual. And at the end of the 12th episode, the right departure is lon g-awaited.
